Clwb Cymreictod

The Clwb Cymreictod (Welshness Committee) was set up to promote the use of Welsh in the school and to organise extra-curricular activities to give pupils a place and opportunity to use their Welsh outside of lessons. The committee is made up of year 11 pupils and each year we elect a Chair and Secretary to lead. It is pleasing to say that the popularity and activity of the Committee is going from strength to strength with pupils organising exciting and unique activities each year.

One of the most popular activities that the Clwb Cymreictod organises annually is Y Cwsg Mawr (The Big Sleep). An evening for year 7, where they have the opportunity to stay overnight at school. Various activities are organised through the medium of Welsh such as fun games, competitions, a treasure hunt, a pyjama disco and watching Welsh films and television programs. It's a popular event every year that is full of fun and laughter.

Other activities of the Clwb Cymreictod include: -

Rounders Tournament: The tournament is held during the summer term where pupils and teachers get together on the school playing field at lunchtime to compete against each other in rounders.

Clwb Cymreictod: A club that takes place at lunchtime on Wednesdays. Club for year 7 and 8 pupils again run by the Welshness Committee. -

Year 5 and 6 BBQs: Every year the Committee holds activities during the BBQ. This year there have been games such as ten pin bowling, Cafe and not forgetting the Doughnuts Race. -

Santa's Photo and Grotto: For several years the Committee has been running the Photo Booth or Santa's Grotto during the Christmas Fair. A chance to dress up in silly costumes and have your picture taken with your friends and a chance to visit the  Magical Grotto. -

Twmpath Dance: This is one of the St David's Day activities.

Shwmae Day: The Committee strives to celebrate important days like this by recording the day in different ways. e.g.  short film / picture.

Radio Rocio Richard: The Welsh Department have a Radio station and the Committee are often busy recording interviews, talks and school events in order to broadcast on Wales.fm.

St. Dwynwen's Day: Every year the Committee holds activities during this day, and last year the pupils distributed "My Last Rolo" to lucky pupils and teachers. The pupils had the opportunity to identify who they wanted to give their 'Last Rolo' to and the Welshness Committee were the postmen .

World Book Day: The Committee holds a Chairing Ceremony to honour the authors of our school, from Year 5 to 11 on World Book Day. The task for the pupils is to write a 100 word story in both languages, and the pupils hold a unique and different chairing ceremony to reward them.

In addition to all the above activities, the Committee meets regularly to discuss issues relating to Welshness. All the ideas come from the pupils and the school prides itself on the fact that our pupils are such good role models for the school's younger pupils.
